Fillings are a common treatment used to treat cavities (or small holes) that have formed in the teeth due to tooth decay. With a good oral hygiene routine, this treatment that can be effective for a number of years and helps to prevent further deterioration of a tooth.
Cavities form when plaque builds up on the teeth and acid erodes the outer layer of the teeth (known as enamel). If left untreated, cavities can deepen, increasing the likelihood of infections inside the tooth. Fillings are used to ‘fill’ the cavities, providing strength to the tooth and reducing the harmful effects of decay.
While white or tooth-coloured fillings are sometimes more expensive than traditional fillings, they are unnoticeable to others and just as effective.
Filling treatment is relatively quick and comfortable. We will use a very good quality local anaesthetic to numb the affected area to improve your experience in the dental chair.
Good oral hygiene and visiting our dentists and hygienists regularly are essential to prevent cavities and avoid decay.
